Patient Disappointed with Orthodontic Treatment by a General Dentist
Global News of Canada recently aired a television segment featuring a young woman who received orthodontic treatment from a general dentist and feels that her teeth look worse than they did before treatment.

Patient who had her dentist do her
orthodontics instead of  an
orthodontist.
The segment addresses the higher level of training completed by orthodontists and includes interviews with two AAO members: Dr. Tim Dumore of Winnepeg, Manitoba and Dr. Ritchie Mah of Burnaby, British Columbia, past president of the Canadian Association of Orthodontists (CAO).

Orthodontists have 2-3 years of formal training in orthodontics and have limited their practice to orthodontics alone. (They don't fix cavities) They are tooth moving specialists.
